Why consistency beats intensity for weight loss

The verdict

Consistency is the strongest predictor of results in the entire literature. Intensity is optional.

Adherence predicts results better than the specific program chosen. Strong evidence.

When researchers compare diets and training programs head to head, the winner keeps being the same: whichever one people actually stuck to. Adherence beats program design so reliably that it has become the least sexy, most repeated finding in the field.

Programs do not fail in week one. They fail in week three, when novelty wears off and life gets loud. The people who succeed are not more intense. They planned for week three.
