Do fat burner pills actually work?
The verdict
No. Reviews show trivial, clinically meaningless effects. If pills worked, everybody would be lean.
Fat burner ingredients show trivial effects versus diet and exercise in reviews. Moderate evidence.
Fat burner ingredients have been studied plenty: glucomannan, L-carnitine, green tea extract, raspberry ketones, the whole shelf. The reviews keep landing in the same place: effects so small they disappear into the noise next to any real change in eating or movement.
What is not trivial is the stimulant load in many of them, which can push heart rate and blood pressure and interact with medications. Paying money for measurable risk and immeasurable benefit is the worst trade in the store.
Do this instead
- Spend the fat burner money on a food scale, walking shoes, or actual groceries.
- If you want one evidence-backed supplement with your lifting, creatine is the boring, proven answer.
- Talk to a doctor before any stimulant product, especially alongside medications or heart conditions.
